Requiem for a Dream

Requiem for a Dream is one of the most intense movie I have ever seen. A mother and son's drug addiction causes them to shatter all their hopes and dreams. This film really takes you into a lives of a drug addict. When they are tripping, you almost feel as though you are too. The movie really pulls you in, causing you to feel the characters pain and anguish.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky, Requiem for a Dream has an amazing cast who really capture the world of a speed and heroin addict. This movie is about Harry Goldfarb (Jared Leto) who is highly addicted to heroine, causing him to constantly take his mothers T.V. and sell it for money in order to buy drugs. Harry's mother, Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) would do anything for her son because he is all she has left. Every time Harry sales her T.V, she buys it back. She doesn't want to offer her son money but can't say no to him. Sara soon gets caught up in the drug world herself. She recently finds out that she has won a contest to be on T.V. Sara becomes obsessed with loosing weight in order to fit into her red dress for the show. Sara goes to the doctor where he prescribes her speed and sleeping pills in order to help her to loose weight. The Doctor does not care about her health, he is just trying to make money.

Harry's best friend, Tyrone (Marlon Wayans), is his partner in the drug world. Together they shoot up heroin and try to sell drugs for a living. They are too addicted to even comprehend how to sell the drugs. Harry's girlfriend, Marion Silver (Jennifer Connelly), is just as caught up into drugs as Harry, Sara and Tyrone. Instead of shooting up heroin, Marion snorts it. The love Harry and Marion have for each other is real, but the addiction they have for heroin overpowers their love. When Marion can't find a fix she becomes desperate and ends up selling her body for heroin.

MovieRapture.com says,"There is not a performer who appears in the movie who does not give a vibrant life to his character. Ellen Burstyn exposes Sara's pathetic loneliness and isolation. Jared Leto has a wonderful edginess and hesitancy that allow the viewer to sympathize with the young addict. Marlon Wayans brings out Tyrone's innocence, and Jennifer Connelly reminds the moviegoer of the sadness of a young woman who is ultimately willing to do nearly anything to obtain the drugs she craves."

This movie takes you on a crazy adventure and leaves you thinking. Reelviews.net says, " Don't be fooled by the passively poetic title; there's nothing serene or restful about this motion picture. Requiem for a Dream gets under your skin and stays there." This statement is extremely true. After watching Requiem for a Dream you won't be able to stop thinking about the dysfunctional lives of these four characters.
